Woman With Horn--The Lancet

17.1Sept21.JPG

In this issues of The Lancet, September 21, 1850, a story was included about a woman with a horn-like growth on her head. Illustrations in this year of the lancet were rare, and even more so of women. This one covers the story of Mrs. P's ichtyhosis cornea, appearing, if glanced at quickly, to be a stylish curl in this illustration. The original growth eventually fell off, but a new one re-grew in its place. The writing physician observes, perhaps with a tone of patronization, that Mrs. P "always objected" when he suggested having the new horn removed.
