Ladie's Guide in Health and Disease
Like other home health guides of this time, J.H. Kellogg, M.D.'s Ladie's Guide in Health and Disease from 1883 shifted its focus in some sections to the effect beauty standards had on women's bodies.
Dr. Kellogg also includes how beauty standards in cultures outside of the West changed women's bodies. Note here not just the rib and organ damage corset wearing caused in the west, but also the plate titled "Fashion in Deformity." Here indigenous fashions of teeth filing, piercings, and stretchings fill the page. On one of the following plates, Chinese foot binding is illustrated in a disturbing and deformed fashion.
