"Maiden, Wife, and Mother"--Perils of American Women
Maiden, wife, and mother: Dr. Austin quibbles not about the available feminine roles in his illustrated home medical guide. Though Dr. Austin's illustrations are comparatively accurate and informative when considering others of the time, they are couched in language which position this work squarely in the Victorian era of its publication year 1183.
Even more fascinating is that book comes with "A recommendatory letter from Mrs. Mary A. Livermore." Mrs. Livermore is described by the National Woman's History Museum as a suffragist, abolitionist, and writer, and she no doubt gave Dr. Austin's book a fair amount of clout.
